The FSAB was established in 2000 to accredit those forensic certification programs that require a strong base of knowledge, skills and abilities. FSAB reviews certification programs by conducting a rigorous review of the requirements, testing, procedures and business practices of the certifying body to ensure that the programs meet the required high standards. This was a multi-year task as all seven IAI certification programs were reviewed.

The board of directors had the foresight to apply for accreditation through the FSAB prior to the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) report suggesting that certification and accreditation be attained. The accreditation of our programs demonstrates that we have met the high standards required by an independent forensic review board. Accreditation validates the stringent requirements that must be met in order to achieve IAI certification and recertification. In addition, applicants must meet certain knowledge and experience requirements prior to being approved for testing. Not all who apply attain certification. That may be due to the inability to meet the requirements or to successfully pass the examination process. The IAI programs are not a gratis certification but an achievement of skill, recognition and a professional striving for excellence.
